The Estuary
Every day arrives with a different weight. Some find a familiar channel. Some ask the organism to grow another.
A voice made from a memory.
Hear the selected day, or let the last twenty-four encounters pass through the instrument. Pitch follows period; brightness follows hum. Loudness is composed.
Sound begins only when requested.
Borrowed ground
Retained daily ocean-period and ground-hum measurements from Palmer Station, Antarctica. EarthScope / IU GSN. The archive can be revised; the organism freezes each row when it learns from it. Missing days are not filled.
A vocabulary, not a discovery
Two dimensions in octave units: period relative to 6 seconds, hum relative to 300 nm/s. A day farther than 0.85 from every centre grows a voice, up to twelve. Otherwise its nearest voice moves 8% toward it. These thresholds and names are authored choices.
Water learning a shore
The rivers, colours and tones are a composition. They are not detected ecosystems or earthquake predictions. The first archive pass is a rehearsal; later dates change this instrument without a model taking another turn.
